Taekwondo philosophy represents the principles of the changes
and movements in human beings. By doing Taekwondo, this understanding should
lead to better understanding and enhancement of our life. The principles of
Taekwondo may be explained with:
·
First, the principle of "Sam Jae" (Three Elements)
which refers to
o
"Cheon" , Heaven
o
"Ji" , Earth
o
"In" , a Man
·
Second, the principle of "Eum" (Negative,
Darkness) and "Yang" (Positive, Brightness).
"Sam Jae" and the changes of "Eum" and "Yang" constitute the
"Eight Trigrams for Divination" in the "Book of Changes". The principle of Eum
and Yang has also been emphasized in oriental countries as the central principle
of life. It maintains that everything in life has an opposite side, the other
side of the coin as said in Hebrew. This principle explains various forms of
changes. Nevertheless it comes from "Taegeuk" (the Great Absolute or yin-yang),
which represents a claim that Eum and Yang was one whole and the same thing. In
oriental countries, it has been recognized as main principle s.t. explains the
changes of everything in the world.
If we understand Taekwondo according to this principle, we
will find a solution to anything in life, and by continuously changing
skills, we will never get stuck, in any situation. After we understand these
philosophical principles of Taekwondo, we can find proper ways to understand and
develop our lives. The Taekwondo should be regarded as a
lifestyle whereas "another" martial art. Usually the one would enjoy the
benefits of a taekwondo when becoming a black belt. It is widely believed that
one is reborn upon achieving the preliminary objective: the black belt.
